New products purchased from OutdoorResearch.com may be submitted for an exchange (in the US only) or for a refund within 60 days of the purchase date*. Please ensure the original tags are attached or included, and that all items are submitted in new, unused condition. Once a return is initiated, if a paid method is selected, you have 14 days from initiation to utilize that label before it becomes inactive.

Returns processing times increase after the holiday season. Our current processing time is 5-7 business days (M-F) after delivery to our returns warehouse. If your return has exceeded that time frame, please reach out to our customer service team.

Retail Store Returns

Yes, you can drop off your Outdoor Research online returns in-store. Follow the online step-by-step Return instructions and bring your item(s) in a bag or a package that is labeled with your RMA number during our business hours. If you need help creating a return for an online purchase our staff are happy to assist you in person.

We cannot provide an exchange for a product not purchased directly in either of our Flagship or Outlet store locations.

Valid purchases made within either of our Flagship or Outlet locations, that are new with tags, can be returned to our stores within 60 Days (Flagship) or 14 days (Outlet) of the original purchase date. Any seconds, samples, or final sale items cannot be returned or exchanged at either location.

Third Party Store Returns

Please partner with the third party retailer where your purchase was made to receive the maximum refund possible. Outdoor Research cannot issue a refund for purchases not made directly through the Outdoor Research website.

Please note that purchases made through ExpertVoice, Outdoor Prolink or College Outside are final sale and cannot be returned or exchanged.

Returns FAQ

Exchanges

1. Only offered in the US.

2. Exchanges are available within 60 days of purchase. 

3. You can choose to exchange an item(s) from your purchase for a different eligible size or color. 

4. Inventory is not held, and your exchange replacement is shipped out after receiving and confirming the condition of your original item(s). If the inventory is low and we are unable to fulfill your exchange request, you will receive notification that it will be treated as a return for a refund back to the original form of payment.

5. We do not currently offer an exchange for a product that would lead to a difference in price and payment due. If you would like to pick out a different item, you are welcome to create a refund for a new purchase.

6. Please note that exchange orders will always be automated to the address that was provided on your original order. The ship-to address cannot be edited on your exchange replacement order. If you need to ship to a different address, please create a return for a refund and start a new order.

7. Exchange replacement orders will ship via a ground courier method unless the address on your original order was for pick up at one of our retail stores. If you require an expedited courier method for your replacement order, please select a return for a refund and place a new order through.  

8. Final sale items are not eligible for exchange.

9. Please note that the exchange portal is not available for warranty replacement orders. If the size, color, or item you received via our warranty channel is not working out, please reach out to the warranty support team for further assistance.

How much does it cost to return my order?

We offer a discounted Return shipping label for $6.95. Alternatively, you may submit a return via your own carrier method once your RA is set up.

Can I return a product if it was a gift?

We do not accept gift returns. For items received as a gift, we recommend working with the person who purchased the item for you to make a return or exchange with the original vendor.

What qualifies for a return?

All Outdoor Research products that are not listed as "Final Sale" qualify for a return. (Final sale items include: all Outlet styles, Face Masks & Face Coverings, and Nikwax products.) We ask that items be returned in brand new, unused condition, with all components and packaging intact. If an item arrived damaged, it also qualifies for a return.

What if I purchased my item elsewhere?

Only items purchased at outdoorresearch.com can be returned through our website. If you purchased your Outdoor Research product elsewhere, please return your item at the store or website where it was originally purchased.

What if my new product is defective?

For gear that has been purchased in the last 60 days and has a defect in materials, workmanship, or product failures, please contact Customer Service.

How do I find my order number?

You can use our Order Status link or your order confirmation email to locate your order number.

Can “Final Sale” items be returned?

Items that are marked "Final Sale" cannot be returned.

How do I get a return shipping label?

We recommend using our $6.95 FEDEX Return Shipping Label which includes tracking and insurance. The cost will be deducted from your refund amount. The label will be generated after you complete the return form. This is only available via FEDEX Economy and does not support AK, HI, USPS, or Canada Post based addresses.

How do I process my return?
