Warranty Service FAQ

What isn’t covered by the warranty?

  • Normal wear and tear.
  • Size and/or fit issues.
  • Batteries have an expected 1-year lifespan from date of purchase, after which time they will not be eligible for warranty.
  • Products that have been handled against their intended use, involved in accidents, or defaced.
  • Products purchased from non-authorized dealers.
  • User-created damage like rips, tears, burns, holes, or stains. 
  • Products with SMS tags, or that have been marked with an X.
  • Products that have been altered by embroidery, patches, or any other 3rd party embellishments or alterations.
  • Lost, stolen, or discarded product.
  • Gift returns.
  • Online purchase from outdoorresearch.com within the last 60 days.

Do you offer a repair service?

We do not currently offer a repair service.

What is the turnaround time for a warranty claim?

Turnaround times vary by season and warranty volume, the most accurate estimate will be included in your warranty claim confirmation email. If you have any questions in the meantime, feel free to reach out to us via one of the channels on our Contact Us page.

I’m only missing a small component of my item, do I need to send my entire item back?

We oftentimes have extra straps, buckles, and snaps lying around the office. Please reach out to us via one of the channels on our Contact Us page with photos of your gear and a description of what you’re missing, and we’ll check our availability.

I didn’t purchase my item directly from you, is it still covered under your warranty?

Yes! As long as your item is made by Outdoor Research, and has not yet been warrantied through a retailer, it is covered under our Infinite Guarantee.

Can I return a product if it was a gift?

We do not accept gift returns. For items received as a gift, we recommend working with the person who purchased the item for you to make a return or exchange with the original vendor.

Can I drop off my warranty return in store?

No, we do not accept warranty return drop offs at either location that have not been accepted yet. If your warranty has been approved, you may attach your RA# to the item and drop it off in store. Warranty returns are all managed through our online warranty claims process.

What happens to the defective and used items once they are sent back to Outdoor Research?

Outdoor Research, as a part of the outdoor industry community, has been fortunate enough to help others in need. Our donations have been sent to areas struck by disaster and given to local community organizations to help those who may not be able to otherwise get outside in the gear suited for their adventures.

Will my warranty claim expire?

Any warranty claims submitted that do not receive a response after 120 days will close. Any follow up to said claims will require a new claim submission.

What if my new product is defective?

For gear that has been purchased in the last 60 days from www.outdoorresearch.com and has a defect in materials, workmanship, or product failures, please contact Customer Service.

What if I don't live in the US or Canada?

Please see our international consumer page here for more support.

Can I warranty my gear in a retail store?

No. Our warranty service is currently only available through this online portal. Our retail stores, and retailers that carry our product, do not offer an on-site warranty service.

Tactical gear in Canada

Please note that we do not carry OR tactical products in our Canadian warehouse. Our warranty can only support tactical product replacements to US addresses.
